  1. I have a trial version of clone, but my plextor comes standard with Nero. Which of the two offer better editing options? Any other advantages one may have over the other? Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Uhm.. CloneDVD does exactly that - it clones discs.

Nero is a full-blown (well, your bundled version is a drunk cripple probably) CD/DVD mastering suite that lets you create your own discs in addition to copying them.

So I should just go with Nero given that I plan to do a lot of editing?

it depends if you own the full blown version or not. Most nero software that is bundled with drives is Nero Burning ROM which, if i am mistaken, only burns data and has no video editing capabilities.

Can't you just keep both programs? AFAIK there are no conflicts between Slysoft products and any CD/DVD burning suites.
