The following information should help you out, in regards to linking a Windows 7 machine to a Windows XP machine.

Subject - Networking Windows 7 to Windows XP

    Tech-Net Microsoft Windows Support Forum
Subject - Making Windows 7 work with older Windows machines.

InformIT (Probably the best laid out advise and instructions for your needs)
Subject - How to network Windows 7 with older machines.

With all that hopefully it will get you somewhere. Just be patient, take your time when setting this stuff up and follow the directions step by step and you should be in pretty good shape.

    "Good luck"! :)

IPV6 needs to be enabled on XP so you can work with Windows 7. To access shares on Windows 7 you could use Web Alias Access to get to them. That's what I was doing using IIS 7.

A quick tip, when you feel you have set the two PC's up on the same network just confirm connectivity with a ping. That way you know if something doesn't work later on its definitely not connectivity but more a software setup issue.
