Network Printer Issues?

I am using a Epson C84 on a Windows XP network. The printer is shared from
one client to all others. The printer works fine but my biggest problem is
the time it takes for the print job to be completed? I have 2 network
printers on the netowrk and one of them is lighting fast and the Epson is
very slow. When you hit print the "Now Printing" dialog box (see attatchment) pops up and stays on for a minimum of 45 seconds before sending the print job to the printer? I have downloaded the latest driver but that didn't do much. Anything else I can try here?

Epson support says it's not the printer but the network settings?

Welcome to TechSpot

Check that the Epson uses the Spooler. It probably does not have much memory either.

A possibile solution might be to get a dedicated printserver, like Netgear PS110, which takes 2 parallel printers. Other models use USB and/or parallel. Even routers now come with built-in PS. The "distance from PC to switch to printserver/printer is faster than through a client.

Or take any 386 or better computer with a NIC and put in a Linux printserver floppy.. It will serve any decent parallel port printer.
