Network problem with Windows XP Box

The network controller is onboard, so I thought it should go here.

Here are the specs for the computer:

Asus A8V deluxe motherboard
AMD 64 (single core)
2 gigs of GEIL RAM
IDE HD (forget brand)

When playing online games or downloading files, the computer will suddenly either drop connection or lag incredibly. When playing Team Fortress 2 with the netgraph on, it was found that during these lag spikes, a HUGE amount of information was transferred for an unknown reason. The computer has been checked multiple times for viruses and spyware, and seems to be clean of both. I'm now at a loss as to what could be causing the problem. Please help.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I`d still like to check for malware.

Go and read this thread HERE and post a HJT log as an attachment into this thread.

First of all tell me what do u mean by 'The network controller is onboard, so I thought it should go here.'

I think u should check ur system for spyware and malware with another antivirus program or update ur virus/spyware definitions.

Also, try to reinstall the network controller driver again and see what happens
