Marnomancer the fast forward button is to the right of user avatars.

Yes, I did complain with the behavior when the new forums happened. But then I realized it was superior to the old way. Now we are going back to the old way and I'm not able to figure out why..

Users want to click the biggest/easiest thing (thread title) and end up at the first unread post, at least I'm sure most of us want to do that most of the time. So making us click a small >> to get that result isn't the best way.

If I don't click that, I end up on page 1 first post. Now, if the thread is more than 1 page, I have to click something else to get where I want, thats another page load.

Another problem is if I've already been to a thread (like this one) and have left, then want to come back to comment, I have no way of getting to the last post quickly. The >> is gone (because I've read all the posts) so now I have to click the individual page number I want, or click the thread title and end up at the first post.

What is the benefit of changing it from how it was?

I agree with SNGX, I liked the previous behavior of going directly to the most recent new post better

Essentially I never got used to it and that sentiment I believe was shared with some of the staff members. So when I proposed moving things back to the way they were it seemed like a good idea and I thought we weren't alone on this issue.

I have another idea that could result in a good compromise for both sides.

    re Recent vs Most Recent:

The concept of NEW allows us to find exactly that, posts with zero follow-ups.
The Recent Activities differs in that these would be posts with one or more follow-ups, sorted descending by date, time and limited to X top results.

Looking at the existing implementation, the Most Recent results also include non-zero follow-up counts.

Personally, I favored the prior implementation

Though much impressive work is being done, any perceived imperfections always tend to attract comments.

So, it annoys me a little that the number of pages of a thread is not directly visible and one has to hover his mouse over their place to see them.

In the example below, the first and last threads actually have of two pages.

A few days later, do you still prefer Xenforo's default behavior? (bold links open first unread message)

I'm not sure why but the little blue arrow for the link to the newest comments is not visible. There seems to be a place holder and link available but the space is empty. I think the arrows where visible a day or two ago.

Same thing here. Definitely not a cache issue this time! :D

Also, you'll want to know that when Matt mentioned me in the post with the Tag, I got no notif, neither of a post, nor a tag (I understand, you said it's in testing yet). This has happened a few times ago.

Yes, still prefer the default. And like Cliff and Marno I too am not seeing the blue >> anymore, its just a blank space. If I hover over where it should be I get a box saying go to first unread, but the >>s don't ever appear. Clicking there still works though.

Ok, so I think we now have the best of both worlds...
The issue about clicking on the forward arrow or the little dot for first post vs. first unread post is that the target was too small.

Considering you prefer Xenforo's way of handling unread topics, I have reverted back to this behavior, so when you click on a bold title, that will take you to the first unread post in the topic.

If you want to go to the first post in a topic, you can now click on the user avatar to your left. This corresponds to the avatar of the original poster, so it kind of makes sense and in my opinion is way handier than going to that user's profile.
