New CONFIG has increased ping.

I have started using a new config on soldier of fortune 2, but my ping has increased by at least 30ms after I started using it. Unfortunately I cannot post the config up because I was told not to, but does anyone have any ideas as to how to bring it back down?

Heh. It's kind of like going to the doctor and (s)he asks, "So, give me the details about how you've been feeling slow..." and the patient responds, "I can't tell you, because its an invasion of my privacy. But can I get some drugs to fix it?". ;)

My first question is what do you mean by 'new config', exactly? Are you suggesting you have a new or upgraded computer? Perhaps a new or upgraded router, network equipment (cables, cards, devices), network/game configuration or....?

Another question I have is are you plaing SoF over the Internet or LAN?

Also, what has changed since that 30ms of ping didn't exist?

High pings are often the result of equipment problems or network congestion. Powering your network equipment (modem, router, switch etc..) off and on should be the first step.
 
I see your point mate... A config is basically a set of user customisable parameters. I will post an example one up... Configs can make a huge difference to your gameplay, hence why the person in question doesnt want it posted up. Anyways, here is an example, so you see what I mean...

I'm not very familiar with the SoF config, but I remember its based on the Quake II engine. Most information you find on Quake II configs should apply.

The options (that I notice, at least) which could affect your ping may include:

  • snaps - number of world updates from server
  • seta rate - packet rate control
  • cl_maxping - maximum ping control
  • cl_maxpackets - hard limits maximum packets
  • cg_antilag - Attempts to minimize ping advantages
  • seta sv_maxPing "0" (Server setting)
  • seta sv_minPing "0" (Server setting)
  • seta sv_maxRate "0" (Server setting)

You can try playing with these settings. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with them to give you any insight.
