New graphics card no display after BIOS

Hey, I recently bought an XFX HD 6870 (upgrading from a 9800 GX2) and the computer boots fans are all on but once it gets past the bios the monitor looses signal. I also upgraded windows vista to windows 7(clean install) and can not enter into safe mode because the screen goes blank. If i put my old graphics card in the card works perfectly. I have reseted the cmos and sent the card back to the suppliers finding no faults in the card.

did you uninstall all nvidia display drivers? also make sure you have the newest drivers from amd.

Thanks for the reply, i found the solution, the graphics card couldnt detect the monitor because of the adapter i was using.
