these are the specs of my PSU http://www.ocztechnology.com/resources/drivers/600wchart.JPG Also looking at my power supply using "SpeedFan" it seems to be running at 91 (degrees celcius) which seems hot
ok this PSU looks good http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_z_series_850w_modular and as far as i can tell it has a 12v to 71A design from the specs http://www.ocztechnology.com/images/awards/Z850_chart.jpg correct me if i'm wrong! luckily i did not buy a new monitor yet so i can afford a new PSU!!!
from what i can gather on the specs of my existing PSU: http://www.ocztechnology.com/resources/drivers/600wchart.JPG it only has a 12v (18A) supply and i need 12V (24A) I did not realise Amps were important i only thought the Wattage was
oh maybe i'm reading it wrong where should i be looking for these stats? I just assumed it was the PSU as it was working fine before and now it crashes and the PSU temp is about 92 degrees C Am i wrong?
Wait i have just realized the four rails of 18A each add up to 72A in total. According to a link i found: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/power_supply/ocz_stealthxstream_600_watt_psu/1 the max load across all four rails is 52A (I agree with you this should be enough) What does it actuall mean by rails as the possible replacement i was going to get only has one, which is better?
Its not a big difference, but I think single rails are a lot better. Anyway, the 460 has two 6 pins right? Make sure they are from different rails, as each can only support 18. I wouldn't be jumping to conclusions immediately, ocz 600w isn't a bad powersupply. Someone else help me out here D:.
As far as i can tell i only have 2 x 6pin from my PSU. How do i tell if they are from different rails one says "PCI-E1" and the other "PCI-E2" do the one and two mean they are from different rails? Just read a whole article on rails and one rail is better
hmm, i don't think i did uninstall my old Nvidia drivers i just installed the new ones. Could this be whats causing the problem. I will uninstall all my nvidia drivers now and start again
It can certainly cause issues, you should have uninstalled the drivers. Anyway, you can do it now, uninstall the old drivers, reboot and run Driver Sweeper (you can find it in Techspot download section) to eliminate any older nVidia files. Then install the latest WHQL nVidia driver.
Ok i reinstalled the drivers after using driver sweeper and it still has the same problem as before. I also borrowed a power supply from a friend which vastly exceeds my own one as it is rated at 900W and has about 80A and i still have the same problem crashes during a game. (Have changed back to old PSU now) Could it be something to do with me now using a HDMI cable to connect to my monitor?
If you are not playing games does the system stays stable? Please download OCCT, and thoroughly stress test your graphic card (including vRAM), just to ensure that you haven't gotten yourself a bad graphic card.
