New Laptop on Windows 8 Won't load certain sites

Hi I hope someone can help, not sure if I've posted this in the right place...

I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 8 OS (not sure if that's relevant or not) and I can't load certain websites - eg. Barclays Bank and sites such as Facebook are quite slow. My other laptop on the same internet connection doesn't have a problem and our internet speed in general is very good. It's the same with FF and IE. I assume it's something to do with settings but despite extensive googling I can't work it out. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to fix it?

The laptop may have a free trial security program pre-installed. Check that first because I find some AV programs can slow things down considerably. Windows 8.1 is said to be very secure on its own.
