    Wow this is the first time I think I've seen anything phone related where it only works in canada and not in the US.

    THIS WILL NOT WORK! Yes, you can turn the chip on it will not do anything, it is missing several things that allow it to work, such as an amplifier and antennae to send or receive a signal. Google confirmed this themselves, being in canada will have no effect, it still won't work.
