In brief: Nintendo has added a new batch of classic Sega Genesis games to its Switch Online Expansion Pack. All are playable right now and add even more value to Nintendo's subscription service.

The Revenge of Shinobi launched in 1989 for the Genesis (released as The Super Shinobi in Japan) and was a direct sequel to the original Shinobi. The hack-and-slash game was the first Shinobi title for Sega's 16 bit home console but it would not be the last. It joins Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, another Genesis game that is already part of the Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Dai Makaimura in Japan) is a classic side-scroller from Capcom. The game was originally released in arcades in the late 80s as a sequel to Ghosts 'n Goblins but later ported to home consoles. In it, you play as a knight – Arthur – who must defeat undead enemies and restore life to those that had been killed by the evil Loki.

Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole from Climax Entertainment hit the Genesis in the early 90s. Some have described this action-adventure game as Sega's answer to Nintendo's Zelda. You play as Nigel, a treasure hunter tasked with fighting enemies and solving puzzles in a three-dimensional world.

Last but not least is Crusader of Centy, another action-adventure game for the Genesis. This one may be more Zelda-like than Landstalker. Gameplay centers around a young teen named Corona who recently inherited a shield and sword from his late father, and puts them to good use by battling monsters that threaten the human race.

Nintendo Switch Online individual memberships start at $3.99 a month, or $19.99 for a full year. A 12-month membership that also includes the Expansion Pack will set you back $49.99. The standard account grants access to a library of classic NES, SNES, and Game Boy games, while the expansion pack opens the door to select Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis titles.

Shinobi and Ghost n Goul's are one of my favorites from Sega along with Altered Beast. It would be awesome if they created new modern versions or continuations of these games on the latest consoles.
