No or Limited Connectivity, help!

I just Installed Windows XP Home on my new 300 gb Hard drive (previouolsy using XP Pro on a seperate hard drive on which the internet HAD worked fine) and after installing a driver provided by the motherboard company called "VIA PCI 10.1000Mb Lan Driver" I can no longer connect to the internet due to "Limited or No Connectivity".
I have tried several suggestions that worked for others on the forums with this problem
- netsh winsock reset catalog
- netsh int ip reset reset.log
- Replaced the Network Cable
I am on a desktop PC that is connected via a Netgear Router (WGT624 v2), and my laptop works perfectly. And now when i try to use my old hard drive to access the internet it connects but it does not recieve any packets.
