No sound after format from 7 to Windows XP Professional 64-bit

I goofed up a reg file and had to reformat. I lost my windows 7 64bit disc and I have only CD's no DVD's laying around so I decided to try out XP Professional 64 since I can put that ISO on a CD.

Here is the error I'm getting right now..... Microsoft Corporation - Other Hardware - Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.

I'm also getting a lot of unknown devices showing up in the device manager. They don't have any information on them to look the DEV or VEN up.

I'm thinking I might not have drivers for the MO or something installed. The computer came with vista and later I upgraded to 7. I don't know if I'm just missing something or if this computer can't work with XP?

Any help will be great. I'm going to be at this all night lol. Thanks!

Don't know if I can help but will take a look

List any Problem devices
  • Make sure devices are connected and powered on
  • Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
  • Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
  • If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
  • On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so
Generate and attach a DirectX report
  • Click Start->Run, enter dxdiag and click OK
===> If you’re running 32 bit Windows, dxdiag will launch on its own
===> If you’re running 64 bit Windows, you’ll see 64-bit DxDiag. Click it to launch the 64-bit version of dxdiag
  • Notice progress in lower left window corner
  • When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
  • Upload the file to include it in your next post

This is the details of the device with a actual name..

Driver: n/a
You have a Realtek Network Controller. Try the Realtek driver downloads for their net controllers HERE

The MS UAA Bus driver was needed for the Hi Def ("HD") Audio Controller to work. HD devices connect to the audio controller so they're probably now being detected which is why your getting the Hardware Wizard

In any case, see if you can the net controller to work and get a network connection. I also still want to see a msinfo32 Problem Device report (instructions in my prior post)

I will upload what your asking when I'm home in about hour 1/2. I must have looked over that request, sorry. I have the internet running fine on the computer. That was one of the first drivers I downloaded. I think this system is doomed to run on XP. My printer wont even work on XP64. I had no issues on windows 7 64bit. I don't understand what's the problem. I think my sound drive is fine to be honest, I think it's just a driver problem for another piece of hardware which is causing the no sound.

Also this hardware listed below is related to the sound driver in a way. I saw that file doing all this research. Nothing comes up for it though when I google it.

On a side note as well....I cannot find a place to download driver's for this computer. It seems it's either very out dated or I just have crappy vendors..

Thanks for your time. I would love if we fixed this, but so far I'm pretty stumped. lol

Yea, downgrading to XP can sometimes be problematic (let alone XP 64) when it comes to finding drivers.

fyi...Hi Def sound connects like this: Windows <==> HD Audio Controller <==> HD Device

Similar to USB devices connect to USB controller. So until your controller worked (which needed UAA Bus driver) your HD device couldn't be detected. But maybe now it is (so you get the Hardware wizard). The device string for a HD device starts HDAUDIO\. Your Win 7 used a Realtek audio driver for the device so should XP. Try it again now that the controller is working.

Those SW\ devices may also be a problem related to audio. I've never fixed it myself but seen the problem posted before. Look at THIS thread and instruction in post #5 in particular. Try those steps to reinstall those SW\ devices which are Windows kernel audio stuff

Give me the Problem Device report when you're done trying. We'll see what it looks like. Don't know if I can help but will try and take a look

UPDATE

I just saw something in your Dxdiag report that I didn't catch before. You have two HD audio controllers installed. If you look under System Device section of Dxdiag note there are two MS UAA Bus Drivers listed
Name: Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio
Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_2A6F103C&REV_02\3&11583659&0&D8
Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\hdaudbus.sys, 5.10.0001.5013 (English), 7/13/2005 20:46:36, 239616 bytes

and

One is on your motherboard and the other in your monitor. You must have a HDMI port on the monitor? So both controllers look OK. The HDMI driver on your monitor will need a different driver then the audio device on the motherboard. Once both HD devices are installed and working also look under Control Panel->Sound->Audio tab. You will have 2 choices in the pull-down for default sound. Make sure it's set how you want it

Just my printer is coming up under problem devices.

I am however getting this issue in Microsoft Update...

BUT... when I go to install it I get this every time...

and lastly here is a update picture of device manager...

I think you hit the nail on the head. Check this picture out. Now we can see there is a underlying problem. This other sound device says it's working properly, BUT when you look under properties it says other wise.. very odd.

I also have a front side soundcard on my tower

Here's a funny fortune cookie I got while uploading these pictures =P. Gave me a good chuckle!

I also wanted to thanks for all your time and help. It's greatly appreciated [LookinAround]! Even if we don't figure this thing out haha :p

No the monitor just has built in speakers, with a AUX(green) plug in cable. I never had to download a driver before to produce sound into them.

Lastly I've never been able to assign a sound card not ONCE since I have reformatted from Windows 7 64 Bit > Window's XP 64 Bit.

Here's the pudding...

"Never give up" LOL , yea is a good chuckle :p

Re: 2 sound cards
Sorry, I mis-spoke. You do have two sound cards. One on the motherboard and one on your add-on graphics card (not in your monitor). In your DevMgr shot
> Realtek HD Audio is the driver for the motherboard sound card
> AMD HD Audio is the sound driver for your AMD graphics card
You can see two audio controllers in dxdiag report under System Device section. Two devices named Microsoft UAA Bus driver but note the different vendor IDs in their Device ID string

Ironically, both their icons would indicate their driver's working so yea, really weird you have those error message pop-ups as well.

MS UAA driver is also a bit of mystery. It should be working because BOTH audio controllers are working. I would think that because they're detecting the HD devices connected to them  Plus MS UAA driver comes included in XP SP2 so would it shoulda been there on it's own (I would think).. Another mystery of Windows

All that said, have you seen THIS yet? Try the fixit tool.

I have one more thought of something to try will post later. btw which Realtek driver did you install? The one on Realtek site or did you try the one from HP site or both?

p.s. Glad to try and help :)
