No system disk or disk error on Compaq nx6110

I have a compac nx6110 laptop. Recently, it was working fine until I switched it off. On turning it ON the error message " No System disk or Disk error ..." appeared and I am now stuck. I entered bios and the HDD Self Test option was not active. Please help.

Thank you very much. From Webscaper I realised that my harddrive had poor connection and as of now my laptop is working pretty well.
