Noise from speakers/headphones

My speakers/headphones make noise when no audio programs are running.

Turn up the volume on the computer and turn down the volume on the speakers.

Disable/mute unused input channels in the recording volume control. If you have the audio cable running from your CD-ROM to your sound card, disconnect it - it is not needed.
