Not Sure Video or Monitor problem

I have an Acer 22" monitor that is 2 yrs. old. I have an ATI 2600 video card that is less than a year old. And I have been noticing in the last 2 months. My screen will all of a sudden go black. Or when I restart sometimes my screen will not show up at all.
I am running XP pro, Gigabyte motherboard,AMD 64x2 Dual 6000+ cpu, 2 Gigs memory. Computer just rebuilt in Jan.

Only way to test is to change one or the other.
My bet is on the Acer with the horrible experience we have had with them. We see a lot of dead ones after 15 months.
