I decided to install ubuntu 12 on my older notebook today. During live CD session strange, green artefacts began to show up, following the mouse and after a while the whole system crashed, everything looked normal, expect for the strange artefacts mentioned above or some broken bits of text appearing on screen. The GPU nor the CPU was overheating, the temperature was fairly normal (it was turned on for like, I dunno, 25 minutes?) I turned the notebook's power off and after a while I turned it on - and well, NOTHING is appearing on screen. The drive is working, so is the CD/DVD, the screen is lit like normal, however nothing appears on screen, not even the BIOS/HP logo. What could be the cause, did the GPU/GPU memory break? I tried reinserting the memory chips and the drive, but nothing worked.

As I said, nothing works - BIOS, Windows, Linux, nothing. The screen just lits and stays black, not even the HP logo or BIOS info is displayed.
