Nvidia's GTX 1070 and 1080 DisplayPorts incompatible with HTC Vive

Then there was my Riva TNT, then my ATI 64 DDR, then the first radeon (now, that was a huge step forward for the times), even my dual port matrix vga. THOSE were all products worthy of a 100/100 rating, if any products ever were.
So true.
I vaguely remember my Radeon SDR but I'll never forget the cool scorpion on the box.
Wasn't too impressed with its performance though, think it was similar to the Geforce2 MX @ 1024 X 768.
Thank god for HyperZ.

Edit: This must have been around the same time I got my Viper V770, that was 32MB too.

What I'm wondering is... is this HTC's fault or Nvidia's?
I'd say it's more likely that it's Nvidia's, caused by a firmware/BIOS bug. There's always weird problems with their newly released cards that get ironed out sooner or later. Of course it's just an assumption--I can't say for sure.

There's so many comments to read through, and maybe someone else already answered this and I missed it.

Is there any REAL downfall to using HDMI over the Display Port?

If there's not, I'm not really sure if this is even a big deal. I can use adapters for the other ports for my main two monitors, no biggie there. Just curious if there is a downfall to using one port over the other. I cant assume there really is any difference.

More issues for the new generation of graphics cards.

We're sure in for a ride..

Kind of glad they've been so out of stock I haven't been able to grab one yet. Thanks for testing, early adopters!

How is a digital video connection "mechanically unsound"?
Have you seen the size of the connectors? add the weight of a cable and it's a recipe for at least a little trouble especially when considering the securing mechanism. In my job I've seen the occasional lousy interface but personal experience of the DisplayPort has relegated this to probably the worst I've used. I have even inserted a dummy VGA cable into my laptop and strapped the cables together to give it some support - and it's not my first DisplayPort connector either, that fell apart the second time I removed it.

...are you talking about DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort? And 'size' has little to do with whether a product is 'mechanically unsound' or not. I suggest you go read up on Mechanics of Materials, and Strength of Materials. Staple courses to any mechanical engineering program, and the textbooks and materials should be easy enough to find.

Ah text books - I might've read a few of them in my time. Many years ago I was working for a rather large telecommunications company and had one of our suppliers redesign a connector that I felt to be 'unsound'* due to it's inability to stay put in all circumstances - not dissimilar to the DP in fact - I still have the redesigned I/f in a plastic bag somewhere (it's somewhat obsolete now though).
FYI it was the DisplayPort rather than the mini DP that fell apart - the mini seems somewhat better designed IMHO.
*a nice little adjective whose synonyms include rickity, flimsy, wobbly - pretty well describes my experience of the DisplayPort

I've had just as many HDMI cables fall apart on me as I have DisplayPort, if we're accepting anecdotal evidence here.
