Nvidia announced plans earlier today to build a new campus to accommodate the company’s growing workforce. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang revealed the plans on the company’s official blog, pointing out that their Santa Clara headquarters barely has a spare desk and they are simply bursting at the seams.

Huang said Nvidia will be constructing the new headquarters right across the street from their current facility and that it will be just as distinctive as the company. He noted that the new building will stand at the intersection of science and art just as their work in visual computing does.

Nvidia selected Gensler, lead by young Harvard-trained architect Hao Ko, to plan the complex. Huang points out that the new campus will be efficient in every way with a design that is thoughtful in its use of space, energy, the environment and cost. Vast open floor plans will facilitate cross-functional work as the nature of many of their projects requires experts from multiple disciplines to work together.

The company known for producing the GeForce graphics card started life 20 years ago this month. The three-person startup has since grown to over 8,000 employees across 40 different sites including major cities like Boston, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo, just to name a few.

As of writing, we have no idea how much Nvidia’s new headquarters will cost to build, when construction will start or when it will be completed. Furthermore, Huang didn’t give any indication as to how many employees the facility will be able to comfortably hold or what would happen to the existing building once the new headquarters is complete.

I don't think it's a bad move. If everything goes down hill they could always sell or lease the building to another company.

Do anyone see the resemblance with a graphic card? I mean... aren't those two just too huge fans on a rectangular chip? :) Even the color matches.
