Old strategy game

  1. I'm looking for a old game.
I think I first saw it in 1997, maybe 1998.

In this game I played a tank or a chopper that had a home where you start the mission and enemy base that you had to destroy.
When a building was destroyed a square with a letter would replace it: I remember F for Fuel and A for Ammo.
After each mission you get money and can buy upgrades.
    Terrain was snow or desert.
The game was 2D or 2D with shadows (2.5D). View angle was from above.
    Platform is PC.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm not a gamer... but thought i'd try tweaking some Google search terms to see what might come up. How about Return Fire (released in 1995)

I don't know if that's correct but i finally tweaked my search terms to tank chopper game F for Fuel and A for Ammo and Return Fire looked like a reasonable hit :D

It's not the old classic Desert Strike for the Sega genesis is it? (1992 release)

Nop. Although Desert strike is a good one too.

Ok, i think i'm remembering the "F for fuel" thing from a game i played myself as a kid. I don't remember the name for now though.

In the meantime what about Armoured Fist?, or it could be one of the many Comanche games?.

Not Armored Fist and Comanche appears to be chopper only so no.
If I remember correctly the game view angle was from above only.

only bell that rings in my head when talking about a tank and chopper game is an old game on the Amiga called S.W.I.V, but its more of a top down scrolling shooter than a strategy game...

Do you remember what platform it was on? PC, Playstation, Atari or other?
