I recently got 2 Dell GX270 machines. XP Pro, P4- 2.4 ghz, 1gb memory, 120gb sata drive. Both these machines seem to react slower than my older AMD 1.4ghz with 764mb memory. Is it me or are the P4's inherently slow? My HP laptop with a P4 3.2ghz seems to have the same issue compared to the AMD box. I am running an AMD 2.0ghz w/1 gb mem here at work, and am quite satisfied with the performance.
I did a full re-format on one of the Dell's, and with minimum required stuff, system drivers, etc, it is still slower than I think it should be. The child menu's dont snap open, but rather slowly (to me) open up, with the text kind of fading into view. I find it annoying, and am ready to ditch both machines, and get something duo-core. These machines are not used for gaming, just the typical BS, lol.
