PC freezing, can't figure it out

Hello, I have a PC that I built for somebody that is having major issues. The PC boots to the desktop just fine, however this only lasts about a minute until the entire system hangs with the cursor still able to move. I've tried to reinstall windows, my usual go to for problems I can't figure out. But upon entrance to the recovery/installation screens, the CD loaded windows operating system tells me there is no hard drive, wtf???

I say again, the PC boots just fine, so the drive is (most likely) fine . But trying to reinstall windows is a no go since the drive is not recognized. It IS reckognized in the bios just fine though.... Which I find very odd. :/

The specs are as follows:
OCZ Agility 60gb HDD
AMD Phenom II X2 560
Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2
ADATA DDR3L -1333 9-9-9-24
Windows 7 Home Premium
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-460-PMSR-A3 460W ATX12V V2.3 Power Supply

I'd appreciate any assistance or tips anyone can give me!

Thanks!

It might be 1 of 4 things:
Your SATA cables might be degrading
Your SATA ports might not be up to scratch
Your hard drive is dying.
Your power supply is failing.
My bet is that the disk is going bad.
Run the manufacturer's diagnostics on the drive and make sure there are no errors
