    Guess it's my turn now.

Periodically and infrequently I lose the hibernation setting on my laptop.
When it's lost, the laptop reverts to Standby mode when the lid is closed,
    which drains the battery.

I can (and have) just reset it --
Goofy, but the setting is still Hibernate so I toggle it to Standby and then reset to Hibernate
and close the Toshiba Console->Power Management tool.
(btw: have not discovered any other settings to be altered)

Platform is Toshiba Satellite mx35-s161 running XP/Pro SP2 fully updated.

    What do you think?

Have you looked at the setting in Windows native power options? Maybe the Toshiba utility and Windows are conflicting somehow?

good idea, but the windows version is mutually exclusive with the Toshiba due to
    hardware.

I found that my Epower.exe was ~4 months out of date so DL'd and installed the latest
rev -- Waiting to see if that's sufficient :)

    Tnx.
