Pinterest is working on a 'Buy' button that would allow users to make purchases from within the social bookmarking service, according to a report from Recode. The feature is expected to launch in three to six months, although it may take longer than that, or roll out first as a limited test.

As per the report, the button will let users order and pay for items pinned to Pinterest boards without having to leave the company’s website or app, a feature that'd transform Pinterest, which boasts 70 million monthly visitors, to an e-commerce platform, directly competing with Amazon. The company, however, likely won’t control the shipping process, the report says.

As far as payment processing is concerned, the report notes that Pinterest is close to an agreement with Stripe, a payments startup that has already landed partnerships with the likes of Apple, Twitter, and Facebook.

While the move hasn't been confirmed by the company yet, it can be seen as part of the natural evolution of Pinterest, which lets users create virtual pinboards showcasing items they find around the Web, in the sense that it is reasonable to expect users to go ahead and purchase some of the items they like.

The news comes just a day after Pinterest launched App Pins, allowing users to download iOS apps from the App Store without leaving the service.
