Playing games keyboard not working right

Hya all,while my sons play games on the internet sometimes the direction or other playing keys on the key bpoard does not work.
They either just pause the game automatically or just freeze the game. I presume this is some type of plug-in missing but I have tried them all some load some do not can anyone help with advice.
