  1. I've been trying to figure out for weeks why all of a sudden I can't convert any avi files using any converting software (winavi, dvdsanta) or video editing software(vegas). I can't even burn an avi to a disk. I keep getting the 'Blah blah software has encountered an error and must shut down' message. Even when I hi lite it in a folder, XP can't preveiw it and I get an error message. This is with ALL avi files. I installed an AVI codec pack + with no results. I don't get it.

    Thanks

AVI is really a container that you can wrap around many codecs. Try using G-Spot to see what codecs the files you're using are and it will even tell you if you should be able to render it.
