Plextor SCSI problems

I have:

-Plextor PX-W124TSe
-Adaptec SCSI Card 2930

And the problem is:

Plextor woan't read disks in "windows explorer" and it
cant read/write disks with its program...or it begins to
read and then it stops and a little screen pops up and
then the program is "not responding".

To me it seems like the SCSI card is working but the
Plextor fails...

I have a clean install of XP Pro and new drivers, no extra
progs/processes running/installed.

but to the point...is there some program that can test the
SCSI card or the Plextor?

How old is this setup? The Plextor drive may just be bad or worn out
