But i don't use alcohol, I use acetone or MEK. That was reference for others

Oh yeah. Not saying that its the only and most effective way to clean off your CPU. Their are lots of quality products made for that task that can do a better job than the alcohol but Its just that its easy to use, works well and can usually be found and bought for cheap. Mine was the 99% one and It cost about 4$ for 600ml I think. I have like 10/12 of the bottle left.

    Absolute Answer: YES
But is it always the best? No

It does not contain alcohol. it contains a petroleum distillant- usually acetone.
there are varieties, but I recommend the 100% acetone version(no nail strengthener, no Vitamin E, no Aloe- nothing!)

As far as I know you can't buy 99% in regular stores in the US. I'm pretty suprised that you can in Canada because as far as I know there is no reason not to sell 99% except for production costs. In the US you can buy 70% or something in the low 90s, like this 91% from Walgreens.

What lead me to even know about not being able to get 99% here is because I work at a university, and my department does a lot of work with chemicals and to buy some 99.8% from Fisher Scientific it costs you 6.5 cents per mL, which equals about $31.50 for 16oz.

That being said I only use 99.9% on my thermal paste removal, it works so well I can't imagine using anything else. I tried to find the exact 99.9% that we use from Fisher, but apparently they don't sell it anymore.

oh, well that must be disappointing. I would have thought the U.S would have it. I know some other places might not have it, but the U.S?!?

You guys should come up here and stock up on the stuff xD Weather is finally warming up ;D

BTW Isoprophyl alcohol is also known as rubbing alcohol if your having a hard time finding it. Rexall was the brand I got, from pharma plus or shoppers drug mart.

well noob, electronics degreaser is cheap and it is far better than using MEK as it comes in a spray can. And if you can't afford $10, then you have no business putting a motherboard together.

Advice here is free. If you don't like it, feel free to ignore it. But you're welcome.

Where Did That Come From! Lol

I must have p*ssed him off after he wasted money. I been doing other forums for quite a while, and I recognise youth as well as generic medications wearing off. Its not an issue for me.

New to forum, but got my degree in electronics probably before you were born. If you understood good business practice, you would know of economics. The less you spend on supplies, the more profit for you. I take into consideration the customers budget too. For me it is not a hobby, but a career I enjoy.

I also consider the unnecessary use of aerosols. Too many people killing the planet already.

Whiffen - we can't: the borders are so tight on what we can take back to the states its ridiculous. Trying to bring 99% alcohol back would probably have us locked up in Guantanamo. I wanted to bring back some 151 Rum from Nevis-St.Kitts in Nov- they said NO. (because it is highly flammable and only it's only 75% ). I'll try again when I go to St Croix in May. Otherwise I'd have to stick with denatured, which is much higher content ethonol based. So that's another reason I use Acetone. re:99% in Canada > Too bad you can't drink the left overs.

I doubt it. I am much older than you think. And no I haven't wasted any money. But it does unnerve me when I give free advice and people get snippy. I guess there is no gratitude from some people.

There's nothing wrong with the planet. Global warming attributed to humans is junk science with a political agenda.
