Problem with Asus K8V-X SE Motherboard

I just built a new computer with:

Asus K8V-X SE
AMD 64 2800 CPU
1GB Memory
ATi 9800 256mb
Western Digital 250GB IDE HDD
Windows XP SP2
Monitor - LG 17" LCD

This is the first computer i ever built. I pluged all the parts into the montherboard and started the computer up. Windows installation when fine but when i try to run any programs the computer crashes. I think it might be something to do with the graphic card because when i installed the card i noticed that there was an extra notch that didn't correspond with the AGP could this be a problem?

Doesn't sound like the graphics card but there is suppose to be an extra notch on a AGP card.
