Problem with ATI card

I was recently on my PC and my monitor just randomly shut off saying it was out of Frequency range, so I replugged in the cord of the back of the monitor to see if it was just loose or something, then I smelt my PC was burning up so I opened my case and my ATI card was really hot... When I touched it my finger got burnt

    What could have caused this?

I have a ATI x1650 pro AGP that I have not overclocked, I updated its drivers and all that

Could it just be overheating for being on for awhile ( About 7 hours ) or could it be broken?

I'll try to look at SpeedFan but I can not stay on my computer for long because my monitor keeps going out of frequency.

    -Edit-

I turned on my PC today and the temps were pretty good, About 28c so I guess it's not as hot as it was yesterday ( It was 140f yesterday which is like 50c )

Does anyone know how this could have been caused though?
