Problem with logon window

ok well my friends comp loads the xp loading screen and it loads and then it just goes black u carnt see anything
any help?

Can the comp boot to Safe Mode?

Then it is likely that there are driver issues. In Safe Mode uninstall the graphics drivers from Add/Remove Programs then try and boot into Normal Windows.
