    And load defaults in bios

Basically if bios defaults are loaded, nothing is over clocked, and the motherboard is working the way it should be. Any change to bios can cause issues.

If you decide to update the bios (currently stated: NF61S-M2A) then you should always backup the old one first (using the bios update program) that way, if all else fails you will (or should) be able to restart. (oh, and make sure USB connections are out)

how do i flash my bios?

I've no idea. or is it reseting it?

Oh, where can i get that bios updating program?
  4. kimsland Ex-TechSpotter

Hi SYLAR__ sorry for the delay.
You need to go to your Motherboards (Biostar) support page
To download the bios update file, and also the Bios update program (2 things)

There are also information on TechSpot about Bios updating (doing a search here)
If you have never completed a bios update before, be aware that this is critical. Many users (even experienced users) have killed their M/b from doing it. ie it's critical!

As I stated, do bios defaults first. And if you decide to continue with bios updating. Please read all information (at Biostar support) first.

I don't actually recommend it for novice users.

yeah i have applied default lots of times. I dont know if this is normal but in the bios setup, the first option, where it lists the devices connected (like hd's and cd drives etc.) It states that the ide master 1 is my hard disk, which is actually a sata hd. so i dont know why it states that it's ide ... or is that just normal? could it be that my Mb has trouble with my hd and therefore it cannot allocate memory properly or something? what can i do to fix that if that's the case?
  6. kimsland Ex-TechSpotter

It may show IDE as your CD/DVD but the labelling can be confusing
If you have a Sata DVD then you can probably disable P-Sata all together and just have Sata.

The boot sequence may just be labelling it IDE 1 HDD
    if possible make it:
    1st Boot device = CD/DVD
    2nd Boot Device= P-Sata Hdd 01
    3rd Boot Device (doesn't matter!)

oh ok, thanks for the info. Now i downloaded the bios update, and it says i need to use a floppy disk to update my bios. can i use a usb drive insead? since i don't have a floppy drive ?
  8. kimsland Ex-TechSpotter

Yes but you need to set Bios for usb boot support, and your usb drive must be made bootable too (of course)

Actually I haven't done it this way, for two reasons:
    1. It's recommended to remove all usb devices before flashing your bios (so hmm no)
    2. Some bios don't support usb boot, and I don't want to wipe my usb drive either (so hmm no)

You could create a bootcd (Nero is good for making bootcds - but you can download bios boot ISO files from bootcd.com)
But, you won't be able to save the old rom file (now that's bad)
Therefore you must be certain that your bios file downloaded is correct (and not even the manufacture garauntee that it will work (ie at your own risk!)

Or find a floppy drive and data cable, and enable 1.4meg floppy in bios

mmmm damn! im gonna chck out the bootcd process then. ill tell u how it goes..

    thanks a lot dude.
