Problem with Nero and MP3s

Have an audio file that I want to shorten, so I used Nero's Wave Editor. Now I clicked to save as an MP3, but when I clicked options to specify bit rate etc, it exited the program. I tried saving without specifiying the bit rate, so the modified file played at 80Kbits/second, which is obviously not too great. Any ideas on what to do? Are there other free editors that can edit mp3 files?

Goldwave is a standalone program that is free and allows you to do many things with your audio file.

    hey m8..

#1 - get goldwave (it's not free though)
#2 - get the mp3 plugin for nero
#3 - u can also try cooledit or stienberg wavelab - for professional editing

if u just want to conevt mp3 to wave files / rip mp3s from cds / convert between audio file types - get cdex @ cdex.n3.net
    it's free..!

Goldwave is shareware... so payment is optional.

But as far as I can tell there are no usage limitations, if you don't let your consious get to you its free.
