Problem with Realtek soundcard

I re-formatted my computer a couple of weeks ago and re-installed all the specific drivers for things such as my Ethernet card and my sound card.

I went to plug my headset into the rear of my tower to use Skype, but it's saying that the headphones are connected but microphone isn't.

I have it plugged in correctly as I didn't have this problem before the reformatting and I'm doing everything the same way.

I'm not particularly computer savvy and I've tried to search for a solution to no avail. Any help you guys can offer would be greatly received.

    Thanks

try to access Realtek HD Manager in the Control Panel. inside it, right click the pink connector (the one you plug your mic into), see if the connector retasking option appears. if it appears, you should be able to set it as microphone.
