Hello !

I have a serious problem with my Sony DVD writer. My OS is Windows XP Service Pack 2 .My Sony DVD writer stops recognising any DVD rom. When I insert a DVD rom in my writer, the DVD-RW drive (d) title changes to CD-Drive (d) and it does not show anything. When I click in DVD writer option in the My computer window, a massage comes as- D:\ is not accessible Incorrect Function. I am just clueless.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT IF ANYONE HAS AN ANSWER

Regards

I am betting on your optical drive.
How old is the DVD drive. Sony DVD drives are infamous for burning out the laser for the DVD. There are three lasers in some of the Sony DVD drives, and they burn out like light bulbs.
Average life of a Sony DVD drive is about a year, but less under heavy use.
Optical drives are now the most common device failure in computers that we see in our shops.
It can also be the belt on a belt drive, or a drive wheel. You can remove the cover from the bottom and take a look.
