Problems After Upgrading BIOS

Hey guys.

I just flashed the BIOS on my ASUS P5B-MX / WiFi-AP Motherboard. I upgraded from version 0501 to 0702. However, after the update i can't set my RAM to 667MHz as I could do before. It keeps it at 533MHz.

I use Transcend PC5300 RAM.

It also says "Unknown CPU detected. BIOS upgrade is required to unleash its full power." when I start my PC. However I press F1 and it continues to Windows.

Please help.

A BIOS update should allow the detection of more types of CPU, not fewer. It almost sounds like the "newer" BIOS is actually older.

Can you post a link to the BIOS updates you used? What problem forced you to the drastic need to update the BIOS?

I updated my BIOS as I was thinking of putting in a new processor which required a more recent version of the BIOS.

please read the updating bios guide in the guides forum.

like cybelex says, it sounds like you have the wrong bios. Go to the manufactuer website and pick the one that supports your cpu.

Also Asus boards are extremely picky about ram. Only use types specifically recommended by the maker.

Asus shows a version 0704 for this board. I used XP Home 32 bit as a search term (no WiFi) http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-usI think I'd read the release notes if I were you
