PS/2 Keyboard via USB converter problem

My PS/2 keyboard port went out, so I bought a USB->PS/2 converter and hooked-up the same keyboard. It sort-of works, but now my CTRL keys and arrow keys don't seem to work. I noticed that XP now thinks the keyboard is an HID keyboard instead of a 101/102 keyboard like it used to. Is there anyway to get my keyboard to work as it used to? Any help would be much appreciated...

Fixed it

never mind folks... I forgot to mention that the keyboard is also connected via a KVM switch and it seems that I needed to reset that to make things work correctly. Looks like all is well now... though I'm out of USB ports...
