    Where's the proof? :heh:

Thats why I always use he/she, covers all bases.... I think.

This conversation, while interesting, should probably be continued with PMs. It is VERY off the thread's topic.

Well, as I see it, we've got the thread starter here..... its not as if we're hijacking it.

And I think it went off topic since halfway through page 2 or something.

As my exwife likes to say: Ya OK whatever... Still, I really don't see what's off topic. It's not like we're discussing the current price of cupie dolls on ebay. We're having a spirited siscussion on cooling, and the validity of the data reported by people. The topic is stress testing, and stress testing is done by most people, although not all, to determine if they have a stable OC. The quality of the stress teast determines the validity of the stats, which in the end reflects on the validity of the review, etc. etc. Do I need to go on, because I can if you would like?

lol I get the point at least.

You gotta also understand that all computers will crash, even non-OC ones due to a wide array of reasons. Some of the reasons may be incompatibility, software fault, hardware fault, power fluctuations, etc, etc, etc. Stress testing helps weed these problems out in OCed computers because they are not rated to run at those speeds, but for no reason can a successful stress test conclude that a PC is completely stable.

But for most OC scenarios, I reckon 24 hour stress test on a computer would be enough to conclude its AS STABLE AS a non-OCed computer.

Anyone who overclocks their computer to get more performance out of their hardware would definately do a thorough stress test. The last thing we need is for the computer to crash when using our favourite program, be it autoCAD, Premier, the latest games, or just plain old Word.

I don't claim to know everything about stress testing, but I've got a hunch different programs may bring CPU utilization to 100%, but they might bring it there via different methods. This may make some programs better at stress testing than others. Does anyone have any idea if what I'm speculating here is true?

So whats the price of cupie dolls these days? :D:D:D

I agree with the stress testing. I usually go away for a weekend while I leave my pc up running multiple testing softwares if possible. As we speak now my ram isnt the greatest, and wont allow me to overclock my board to 410 bus rate, I learned this through just using different programs. Probably gonna have to pick up some corsair dominator ram to finish the job.

wow.... a weekend of stress testing?

What did you hope to achieve? Btw, what do you use your computer for again?

Mostly just games, some video editing. Mostly in the little spare time I have I like to chop of random videos I like and do weird things to them.

-_- lol... Immediately after I make my statement, you guys continue... :dead: Maybe make a new thread? Call it the supersmash and CMH argument/agree/cupie doll thread ;)

whats wrong with continueing? We're actually back on track with Q6700 stress testing....

Video editing does take up a whole lot of processing power.... You have more use of your Q6700 than most of us do with our Dual Cores I must say....

Even then, a weekend of stress testing is pretty extensive.

My temps are stable mostly, but checking my list twice cant be a bad thing right? My ram is crapping out on me right now during overclocks, what do you think about the dominator series for overclocking my cpu?
  14. CMH TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 2,572   +9

The dominator range was widely applauded, but I believe if you've got ventilation, or willing to add a fan or something, or maybe the thermalirght HR-07 on the RAM, you don't need to invest in the dominator RAM. In other words, you're paying a price premium on the "cooling". Its not THAT great anyway as a cooling solution, but it beats a simple heatspreader.

Of course, if you're not willing to add airflow, or change heatsinks, then its probably among the best you can get. I have more faith in Corsair RAM than OCZ RAM atm for some reason....

But if you're gonna get new RAM, and you're into overclocking, I'd suggest getting one of the new P35 motherboards, those are supposed to be really good at overclocking. And you're getting new RAM anyway, really high end ones as well, so why not get a new motherboard to go with new top end RAM?

Well I'm lookin for a board that has wifi on it if i upgrad mobos' I'm not using LAN, currently cannot. I just think my ram is holding be back from overclocking as well as i could on this board, i thought before, because of oem builders got bus rates of 350, then i saw a few revies with cosair ram that got to 410 pretty stable. So the questin is spending 250 for a new mobo, or 400 on ram. hmm let me think, lol. Good idea and thx CMH.
