The latest post on Qualcomm’s official blog sheds some light on the company’s upcoming Snapdragon 200 and 400 processors. Unlike the beefier Snapdragon 800 and 600 processors, these new chips are targeting mid-tier and entry level smartphones according to vice president of marketing for Qualcomm Mobile Tim McDonough.

Snapdragon 400 processors include the option for dual Krait CPUs clocked at up to 1.7GHz per core or a quad ARM Cortex-A7 running up to 1.4GHz per core alongside an Adreno 305 GPU. Chips will also include support for modem technologies like TDSCDMA, DC-HSPA+ (42Mbps), 1x Advanced, W+G CDMA, and multi-SIM capabilities of Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS) and Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA). They can also be paired with cameras up to 13.5-megapixels that support 1080p video capture.

Lower end Snapdragon 200 components will consist of quad ARM Cortex-A5 CPUs clocked up to 1.4GHz per core, Adreno 203 graphics, LPDDR 2 RAM, HD video playback, CDMA multimode/UMTS modem options and multi-SIM capabilities of Dual Sim, Dual Standby. 200 series ships can support cameras up to 8-megapixels, we’re told.

It’s unclear at this hour how much cheaper these chips will be compared to their more powerful siblings. Furthermore, Qualcomm didn’t give any indication as to when we can expect to see these chips show up in handsets or which would be the first to carry it. Considering the fact that Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, however, odds are we won’t be waiting in anticipation for too much longer.
