Question about my motherboard

  1. Greetings. I have an Asrok Z77 Extreme 6 Motherboard.

I currently have an I5 3570K in there. I believe my Mobo is LGA 1155.

Can I pull out the 3570L and drop in a I7 4790K? I 'think' they are the same socket.

Not sure if I will see any real increase in performance. I over clock the I5 to 4.2.

    Any advice is welcome.

Sorry, no. While your motherboard does have socket 1155, the processor i7 4790K is socket 1150. You'll need a new motherboard.

Thanks very much. Its probably much smarter to wait for the price of the new DDR4 Motherboards and Processors to come down in price and upgrade with those.

Initially from what I hear, DDR4 will not make that much difference. Sure it paves the way for future platforms, but that is in the future.
