Questions about a monitor power cord

I was given an HP flat screen Monitor yesterday with just the cord like this http://www.pcsrvc.com/usermanual/Image35.gif not THE exact PICTURE.

Amongst the other items was a power cord AC/DC Apapter that I've ONLY seen used on laptops.
MODEL ADPC1260AB
S/N 1260AE60405370

My tower is HP & I did plug it in as is BUT NOTHING. My question is,is the cord I got the power cord? TIA.

Along with the attached picture of the adapter, on what appears to be a bar code is the alphanumeric number 1008555A0743 s p a c e ADPC1260AE

I'm hoping somebody here can help me cause I don't want to fry the monitor or blow a fuse in the house. Better safe asking here than sorry & not being able to get her for help. TIA.

SOLVED. I'm now using the new to me monitor & lovin' it.
