I recently tried to upgrade my version of itunes+quicktime only to get an error msg stating an older version could not be removed and the installation of quicktime would be aborted. I tried to manually uninstall from add/remove in control panel but got an error msg stating it could not find quicktime.msi. I did a seach for that file and found 2 instances of it and tried pointing the uninstall to them with the same outcome. I then tried to do a seperate install of quicktime and used a much earlier version hoping I could upgrade from there and "trick" the computer into it, but it "tricked" me by putting the older version somewhere where I can't find it and not doing what I want besides. I am considering just formatting the beast, but thought if there was a fairly easy way of recovering quicktime, I'd try that first.
Sometimes using windows alone to uninstall things just doesn't work right. Some things require a little more "persuasion" to leave the system, here's what i normally use: http://myuninstaller.en.softonic.com There are more different uninstallers you could try, if you wanted to.
Use the Microsoft "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" - downloadable from http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Withdrawn I was also going to recommend the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, but it has been withdrawn by MS because it could damage Windows components. It may still be available for download elsewhere on the web, but should be employed at the user’s risk, which personally I wouldn't take. See instead the relevant MS article: How to troubleshoot problems that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade a program on a Windows-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/ As regards the above Utility, See also: http://clubhouse.microsoft.com/Public/Post/3d3db81c-a4a7-4d34-869e-a5a95714baa7
Well I used the windows installer cleanup utility and it worked great. Quicktime is now installed and working. no other problems.
