Raid Controllers

I have a gateway 710XL, Pentium 4, 3.4GH, 1024MB Ram, 2 Maxtors 250GB Harddrives, with Raid controller intergated on motherboard "Intel(R) (wasp)Pentium 4 motherboard NO CPU R2" Socket 478. Somehow I lost my Raid controller and for the life of me I can't get it loaded back up. Can you fry your Raid out? I was doing a reformat and lost power while loading up my drivers. I have checked both Harddrives and am able to load xp on both and they work just fine. But that is by their self, when I enable Raid it will not let me boot up. I have tried 3 or 4 time to load windows following the instructions with my CD's from gateway but it gets to the blue screen that says "wait while files are loading" and it will not go any futher. After loading xp to one disk and I try to load drivers I get a message that says "Incompatible hardware". Will I have to change the motherboard or can I just install a (Raid card)?
