Recovering files on Windows XP

  1. So, a friend's motherboard decided to crap out on him and I said I'd give him a hand at recovering his data, but he set his profile to private under XP and we can't access his documents to grab his pictures and what not. Anyone know of a way around this "Block"?

Boot with a linux live CD or maybe a BartPE CD. I've also used Norton Ghost in the past to recover data from drives outside of Windows.

Boot a Linux CD like Knoppix. The files are easily accessed :)

Ahh, well, my friend decided to format the drive while I have having a nap with my daughter so I couldn't try to get said files.

Thanks for the insight on it, I'll definatly remember this for later use. =]
