I am getting the following error, "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows
Defender Service to stop.To start the service, restart your computer or
search Help and Support on how to start a service manually"

Also I have Avira Premium Security Suite, my OS is Windows XP SP3 32-bit with lastest updates installed, & of course my Avira Premium Security Suite & Windows Defender has the lastest updates installed as well.

Sometimes when a program is not working right or behaves abnormally a quick fix would be to uninstall it and reinstall again. I'm not sure but you may have to reboot after uninstalling.
