Reinstall to enable hyperthreading - registry restore?

Hello, I just ordered a new computer and only now while waiting for the parts to arrive did I realize that my current machine (an abit using an Intel Celeron C 2.80Ghz processor) has hyperthreading ability, but it is not enabled in windows.

I read online that to enable it in windows requires a fresh install.

My question is if I do a fresh install, enabling the hyperthreading, and then restored my old registry from a backup and program files, would the hyperthreading still be enabled, or would the change mess it up. Also is this whole process even plausable?

I really just don't want to reinstall the few hundred programs on this machine.

Will hyperthreading be worth it?

btw I'm running XP Pro.

Hello,
Just tried to clarify using the details you supplied above (my guess this is yours-Intel Celeron 1.6GHz-2.8GHz Northwood-128) here at Intel and it says "No" in the Hyper-threading column
It is more of a BIOS change as you are running Windows XP and that OS is capable dealing with the technology/commands

In answer to the latter question is...

this what you were aiming for??
