Was given a "used" XP Pro (no svc pack) to use to get my
comp up and running after having to replace the C hard drive.

Need XP w/SP2 so I can format a SATA 250g drive with no
partitions - apparently it takes SP2 to do that.

Bought XP Home SP2 (like I had on before the crash - had lost
the key, of course) and I think I'm ready to install it.

I've got everything transferred to another physical drive,
all the stuff on the desktop, the Firefox browser & bookmarks,
all the Program Files with all my security & video stuff -
anything else to do?

NOW - do I have to reformat that hard drive to install the
new XP, or can I do a Repair type install "over" the existing
XP Pro?

If I can, exactly how do I get started?

Thanks!!

Hi

Just set your PC to boot from the CDrom drive, insert the disk and off you go..

Follow the prompts until you reach the part about where XP will install, if there are existing partitions you have the option to delete them. I would suggest doing this, once they are deleted just create a new partition/s and then carry on installing XP.

OK, thanks.

I couldn't quite remember how to get started.

(No partitions on the drive, all in 1)

Hi

Never be afraid to ask what seems like a daft question, my memory lets me down sometimes and I have to ask them as well...
