  1. Occassionally, about 30% of the time, when either i restart or try to shutdown windows xp pro, it gets to the shutdown screen, says it is saving system settings, and then NOTHING, it just sits there doing nothing. i have to manually powerdown and turn the comp back on. no error messages or anything, just sits there. any suggestions???

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Do a complete scan for virii, adware, malware etc, using your antivirus prog, and spybot, and adaware.

If all comes back clean, then backup your important data(just in case)

Go HERE for instructions on how to do a Windows repair install.

Once you have done that, you will need to update your Windows os again, as doing a repair install wipes your current updates.
