Restore Windows or System Files

  1. My friend's laptop doesn't have a floppy or cd-rom drive. It can be bootable by a USB flash drive. Is there a way to reinstall Windows XP via USB Flash drive? Or, a way to restore all the system files in the Windows (system32 things were deleted)? He had a virus that wiped out his system. I have looked online for the BartPE method, but that still doesnt work.

    Go here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.html

and read post #2 by usasma.

In your case, you would copy the I386 folder to a USB drive/flash in the root (say it is E: drive then E:\I386).

Then modify the registry as indicated to look there.

Then run sfc /scannow (or sfc.exe as indicated).

    I think that would work.
