    Hello everyone.
I am trying to put together a computer that will be used to stream MP3's and such. I would like for it to be able to connect to the router, so it is able to access network files, but I don't want it to be able to get on the internet.

I have a linksys vonage router, and an air station wireless router (used as an AP). The PC will probably connect through wireless, but can be wired if necessary

Can this be done through the router setup?

I am trying to keep from having to keep one more machine updated, as it will just sit in a corner.

Am I being stupid? Should I just not worry about it and hook the think up and keep it updated?

I would not make a judgment either way as I have done lots of dumb, but just turn on auto updates and let it do it when u are away. this can be done from Start, Control Panel, Automatic Updates, just set it to when u are not at the computer.

I would think that all routers have some packet filtering thing. So yeah, you should be able to block computers by IP and MAC addresses.

You could also just configure the machine with a static IP and no gateway set.

Missing gateway would work, so would an incorrect static DNS server.
